I mentioned in yesterday's post, last evening was Drewman's school Senior Scholarship and Awards Banquet.
Drewman always puts his best foot forward, faces adversity head on and strives to achieve goals he has set for himself.
Once one goal has been accomplished, he is quick to set another higher goal.
He does this with a positive attitude and a cheerful smile on his face.
Even in defeat, Drewman finds the positive and turns things around.
Drewman received four community scholarships, last evening.
1) Company I Memorial Foundation
Preference was given to students who are decedents of the Men of Company I.
Drewman's grandfather, Jim, was a member of Company I in the Korean Conflict.
(Thank you Uncle Mark and Aunt Lisa for providing that information.)
This scholarship is available for incoming college freshman, continuing & post-graduate education programs.
2) The Perry High School Alumni Association Scholarship
This is a one year non-renewable scholarship awarded to several high school seniors.
3) The Bess Kime Memorial Scholarship
Bess Kime was a life long resident of our town.
She was a woman who exemplified the importance of faith, education and caring for others.
4) The Bill Finley Memorial Scholarship
This is a four year scholarship, payable each semester to the university of the recipient.
Bill Finley was a well respected man in our community.
He was a role model, self starter and a great supporter of Perry Schools.
He was an honest man who was quick to let others know his expectations of them.
My Daddy and Bill were friends.
My siblings and I are friends with Bill's kids.
Drewman and Bill's grand daughter, Taylor, are great friends.
Both, Drewman and Taylor received the Bill Finley Scholarship.
I am willing to bet there were some high fives and fist bumps going on, in Heaven, when Taylor and Drewman took the stage!
Drewman knows what will be expected of him to carry out Bill's expectations of this scholarship.
Bill's family, as well as Flower Boy and I, have no doubt Drewman will do this with honor and dignity.
Drewman also received an NOC Interscholastic Scholarship for placing 1st in the Ag II Interscholastic Competition.
This scholarship combined with one he received his freshman year, for placing 3rd in the Oklahoma History Competition, should pay for one class at OSU/NOC this summer.
Lastly, Drewman has received an incoming freshman scholarship from Oklahoma State University.
This was based off of essay questions answered while making application to OSU.
The jury is still out on a foundation scholarship and a rural community scholarship in which Drewman has applied.
The applications were not due, to the agencies, until May 1.
Recipients will be announced later this summer.
Those scholarships are based off of rural community involvement and small business entrepreneurship.
Drew is hoping all of the efforts and hard work put into Drew's EGGcelent EGGs will provide him one of these awards.
As for The Big Kids, Flower Boy and myself, we couldn't be more proud of Drewman and all he has accomplished.
We know he is prepared to spread his wings and fly.
He will soar to great heights and continue to set new goals, in order to get to his mountain top.
Keep Climbing Son!
Love,
Mom
PS: Next Stop = Baccalaureate
Note to Self: Stay strong momma
